MK4 Review at GE

Finally it comes home. Finally Midway releases a NEW game. After milking the MK liscence for all of its worth with MK3 UltimateMK3 and MKTrilogy, now a new game is out. Doing good in the arcades, now it is released. The graphics are great with a 3d accelerator. On my p200 with a 3dfx it was smokin' at 60fps! The lighting is also exceptional. Check out the screenshots above for 640x480 screenshots. In the old MK's the characters used to move like paper cutouts, now the motion is very fluid with excellent animation. Also check out this 800k MPEG for a 40 sec movie and see how the animation has improved. The 3D is also used so it is not just a gimmick. When you do a roundhouse kick for example, the character flips across multiple planes giving him a chance to make a comeback. Sidestepping is also added. This works better in MK than in other games such as Tekken because in MK there are more projectile weapons.

Another good addition of MK4 is that each character has his or her own weapon which can be pulled out at any time during the battle and can be knocked out of your hands by other players. It is cool because you can also pick up other player's weapons and use it against them. In some arenas there are also objects to pick up and throw. The sound system in MK4 Is also very good. The PC version has every sound effect from the arcade.(Unlike the N64 which loses music quality and some of announcers voice) With a sub-woofer the sound is really great. Overall, MK4 is a great game (I still think they coul have added more detail the PC version) and if you liked any of the other MK's, this one is worth a look.
